Marciac, a torrid evening in early August 2014. Under the big tent of this small town in the Gers which is like every year the world capital of jazz for a month, Ahmad Jamal goes up on stage with his three loyal musicians. It is the double bass player Reginald Veal who has the privilege of setting the tempo with a superb new, Sunday Afternoon, which extends the magic of the Blue Moon and Saturday Morning albums. The group is in top form and works more telepathically than ever. Imperial, Ahmad Jamal offers us a superb concentrate of groove; alongside his own compositions which form the bulk of the set, he invokes Cole Porter and Horace Silver who has just died and to whom he pays a double tribute, by taking up his famous Strollin 'and offering him a new piece, Silver. The group sounds like never before, the pianist is in the upper echelons of genius. And the public communicates, like all of us today thanks to this essential double album in sound and images.

Sous le grand chapiteau de cette petite ville du Gers qui est comme tous les ans la capitale mondiale du jazz pendant un mois, Ahmad Jamal monte sur scène avec ses trois fidèles musiciens. C'est le contrebassiste Reginald Veal qui a le privilège de donner le tempo avec un superbe inédit, Sunday Afternoon, qui prolonge la féérie des albums Blue Moon et Saturday Morning. Le groupe est au mieux de sa forme et fonctionne plus que jamais à la télépathie.
Impérial, Ahmad Jamal nous offre un superbe concentré de groove ; à côté de ses propres compositions qui forment le gros du set, il invoque Cole Porter et Horace Silver qui vient de mourir et à qui il rend un double hommage, en reprenant son célèbre Strollin' et en lui offrant une nouvelle pièce, Silver. Le groupe sonne comme jamais, le pianiste est dans les hautes sphères du génie. Et le public communie, comme nous tous aujourd'hui grâce à cet indispensable double album en son et en images.
